Mars enters Cancer the day before, which turns up the instinct to protect what you already have. That instinct is accurate this week. It is just pointed at the wrong thing about half the time.

By Thursday the Moon reaches Virgo and the sorting starts, which is the part you actually control. Brace early. Sort late.

Partnership is where your eclipse lands, directly across from your sign. A relationship, a contract, or the terms of one may end on Wednesday. It will feel like something that happened to you rather than something you chose. It was not. Mars reaches your work and health on Tuesday and gives you somewhere to put the energy while you adjust.

Work and health get the reset. The eclipse falls on the systems that run your ordinary day, so a job, a routine, or a health situation may end or change shape. Venus warms up shared money and intimacy at the same time, which helps. Fix the routine before you diagnose yourself.

On Wednesday, August 12, the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun. A huge part of the Northern Hemisphere will see some version of the eclipse. Only a narrow strip of Earth will experience totality.

Inside the path of totality, the Moon’s apparent disk completely covers the Sun’s bright face. The pearly outer atmosphere of the Sun, the corona, becomes visible. Daylight drops, the air can cool, and bright planets or stars may appear for a minute or two.

Outside that path, even at 99 percent coverage, a thin piece of the Sun remains exposed. That sliver is still intensely bright. The sky does not behave the same way, the corona does not appear in the same way, and eye protection stays on.

According to NASA’s eclipse map, the path of totality crosses a remote part of northern Russia, Greenland, western Iceland, the North Atlantic, northern Spain, and a small corner of Portugal.

In Greenland and Iceland, totality arrives in the late afternoon or early evening. In Spain and Portugal, it reaches land shortly before sunset. Near the center of the path, the longest totality is about two minutes and eighteen seconds. Most of the United States and Canada will see only a partial eclipse, and some places will see just a small bite taken from the Sun.

Not because anyone guessed. Eclipses are geometry. Astronomers can calculate the paths of the Sun and Moon far into the future, and eclipse families repeat in cycles. This one belongs to Solar Saros 126, a sequence whose eclipses recur roughly every eighteen years and eleven days.

Astrologers take those known dates and read the chart for the event. Every solar eclipse is also a New Moon. This one is a total solar eclipse in Leo, so astrologers have had the date, sign, and degree in their ephemerides for years and could compare it with birth charts long before 2026 arrived.

The physical experience of totality depends on location. The astrology is read from the eclipse chart and where its degree lands in your birth chart. Those are two different systems using the same event.

During every partial phase, look only through safe solar viewers that comply with ISO 12312-2. Regular sunglasses are not enough. If you are outside the path of totality, there is no glasses-off moment.

Only people inside the path may look without eye protection during the brief period when the Sun is completely covered. Glasses go back on as soon as any bright Sun reappears. Cameras, binoculars, and telescopes need proper solar filters attached to the front; eclipse glasses do not make it safe to look through magnifying optics. Read NASA’s full safety guidance here.
